Francis of Assisi, on his way to La Verna, used to stay at the Castle of Montauto, a guest of his friend Alberto.
During one of these stops, perhaps presaging his own death, Francis left to Count Alberto his own habit, torn and sewn with broom stems, as a memory of himself. Even today the territory of the Rognosis Mountains is rich in places linked to the presence of the saint of Assisi.
